windows xp stalls sometimes on startup

Just built a new computer and installed windows xp home edition.
half the time i power up the tower, i have to reset the computer because the boot up sequence stalls.
The boot order in the bios settings are set for default.
not sure what is causing this problem.

does anyone have any ideas?

what are you system specs? happened to me with windows xp home edition with only 192mb of ram, now with windows xp profession and 512mb of ram, runs like a charm

I have 512mb of memory, p4 3.0Ghz

Set it to boot from the harddrive first.
