Installed XP about 2 months ago; everything was fine. Now when I open various windows (e.g. Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer, programs, etc.) they are slow to open and close. Sometimes the windows partially close, then after a few seconds, the remainder closes.
Consequently, this condition also affects video performance. And if I go into My Computer, I sometimes get that dreaded flashlight which searches for 15 - 20 sec before it finds all of my drives. Below are my computer specs and what I've done already to try to correct this problem to no avail:
K6-III 500 MHz - AMD Award BIOS 4.51pg (Flashed)
200 G HD Partitioned - Drive with OS is 15 G, 5.7 G free
512 Mb SDRAM - 350MB free
VIA MVP3 Chipset (upgraded)
Norton Anti-virus 2005
Xoftspy & Ad-Aware
Registry Mechanic
Drive defragmented
No programs running in background that I can tell
Anything I'm missing?
Any optimzing/utility programs I might need?
Any suggestions?
