Is there any way to make my computer shutdown faster. I am using Windows XP. It says "Windows is Shutting Down" for a really long time and sometimes it freezes at that screen. My specs are okay i guess (1.7GHZ 512MB ram). thanks for any help

try this it decreases the time windows takes to shut down processes.

* Start Regedit.
* Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control.
* Click on the "Control" Folder.
* Select "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"
* Right click on it and select Modify.
* Set it to a value lower than 2000, say 1000 as a test.

thanks for your help jcortes. il see if it shuts down faster the next time i turn my comptuer off.

Hello,

...you also have to set the string value of AutoEndTasks in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control to 1 in order for non-responsive tasks to end automatically.

there is no AutoEndTasks in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control

okay i found it. it is under HKEY_USERS/S-1-5-21-515967899-789336058-1060284298-1003/Control Panel/Desktop

Now when i shutdown, it goes to the "Windows is Saving Your setttings" screen in 1 second. but it still takes a long time to shut down after that.
