Default WIndows XP security

Can anyone tell me what's the story with Windows XP Pro at present? How many computers can you install it on, do you need a new product key if you change hardware, & can you make a copy of your disc in case of 'accidents'? I'm tempted to buy the program, as long as it'll go on more than one of our comps.

The more I read up & ask about it, the more conflicting stories I get!

I think the EULA allows one installation of the OS on a PC and on installation on a Laptop. Not too sure though...

...but I know that you can't install Windows XP on more than one PC using only one CD. But it also depends on the licensing.

There's nothing stopping you from installing Windows XP on one CD to more than one PC however. It's just the law that's stopping you I guess . If you were to do this, then you'd probably be unable to benefit (if at all) from Microsoft Update, but you'd still get all the security patches. No big problem.

Send a message via MSN to office politics

also, you are allowed to have one "backup" disc. i believe this is described under a law/act called 'fair use'
