Default Windows Xp, problems with Installation

Hello, I have got the following spec machine.

80.0 Gig Hard-Disk
512 Ram
64.0MB Nvidia Graphics Card
AMD Duron Processor 1.8GHz
Microsoft Windows XP - Home Edition
External CD-RW

I wanted to do a full system re-install, but for some reason it would not work from the main dvd drive, it would ask if i wanted to boot from cd, i selected yes, then instead of doing the system re-install, it would load up the present version of windows?
any ideas?

Thanx...

Lawrie

Do you have another cd drive? It might not be recognizing your dvd drive during boot.
