Windows XP Power Options

I have been running Windows XP on my Dell Laptop for the past three years and have the Power Options set to turn off the monitor and hard drive after 15 minutes of no use. For the past three weeks the Power Options settings no longer work......changing them makes no difference at all...I have tried all that I know, any ideas out there?????

Did u install any software that take control of the functions?

No new software installed in the last several months. None that would take control of powering down the computer are currently installed. I know this is a strange problem and not a do or die isssue, BUT when anomolies like this happens it makes me nervous that it could be a warning sign of other problems to come.

I would just use your bootable Windows CD to repair the operating system.
