Most of my software programs are installed on a different partition (not C:).
If I format and re-install XP (sp-2) on my C drive; will my programs be recognized by the OS?.

Thanks in advance
Richard

No, you won't be able to run them if you reformat, because registry entries would have been wiped with the previous install. Unless the programs are standalone (require no install); you won't be able to, because of the registry issue.

^ absolutely correct. I just wanted to further explain that it has nothing to do with the drive letters, or where you've actually installed the programs (D, E, J, whatever).

If it's something like a game, you can find the related registry entries and make a backup of them, then add them to the fresh install. I have done it because I have my games on a separate partition. Honestly though, it's a lot of work for getting so little accomplished. You might as well just reinstall.

It isnt jsut the registry. It is also the stuff stored in teh App Data folder which holds profiles and such for many programs like Firefox and Opera.
