Windows Xp Home or Windows vista home basic

I am more of the opinion that Xp will be supported for a while. Like Windows 98 where it was supported longer than Windows Me.

XP is supported till 2014. But that is only Extended Support. Meaning you have to pay for the support calls to Microsoft. It is out of its normal support lifespan. So while yes it will be supported till 2014, you have to pay to get any kind of support for it from M$. Not many places are looking to do that.
