Windows XP won't boot and disc won't work!


Hey,

I have a Windows XP and it has stopped working, so I got my Windows XP boot dis and put it in and did everything on it and it kept freezing. is there a problem with my PC or boot disc? and if so how can I fix this problem?

Do you have the system set to boot from the CD in the BIOS?

What does that mean?

(The CD loads but on the blue screen it says enter to install r to repair, when I press R or ENTER it freezes D

Then that could be due to heat, or a issue with a piece of hardware. Could be the CD is scratched beyond working order as well.

The PC is never warm since it has been off for a long time since it stopped working and I have got it out again and tried.

The disc is fine since it worked on a Virtual PC.

Now it's saying cannot find biosinfo.inf and I searched the disc in this PC and it there

Get a copy of GParted.

Burn that to CD and boot from it. Format the drive to NTFS using this. Then try to install again.

It will format the disk with the NTFS file system.

Just a question is this your orginal disk or did you download it an burn it yourself?

btw would this make a difference since about 5 weeks before it crashed I installed windows vista on it, would it work if I put a vista boot disc in there?

Well if this is the OEM disk is the disk scratched? And what is your reason for wanting to reinstall XP? where you having issues with system stabillity?
