Windows XP fails to acquire an IP address

This DT PC was find for years and now fails to acquire an IP address. With static IP, I made it work, but am curious how the issue can be fixed.

I tried "netsh int ip reset C:\log1.txt" and "netsh winsock reset". The latter gave the message "Successfully reset winsock catalog" and asked for restart, which so I did.

At the end of the day the PC is still unable to acquire IP!

Anyone knows another method? If I want to import comprehensive set of registry keys from another PC, which parent key I need to delete and replace?

restart router (or device running dhcp)

Try running Wireshark to see what is really happening between the nodes.

do you have a usb wlan nic to attach to the machine? if that works, then the faulty one is bad.

I tried to use it in the past, but could not understand how to do it. I posted on the board, but there was no response.

Would you help me in that? I will need to ask few questions.

All NICs are built-in. But is there something technical which is more general we can learn?

E.g. when a NIC has so & so failure it can send so & so signals which corrupts system registry ... .

Most motherboards do come with the nic onboard now, but you can still get a PCI or pci-e nic that will fit inside. I am not going to go getting technical over a nic, sometimes they just quit... I replace at least 3 or 4 a year because the onboard quits functioning. Keep it simple.
