A spokeswoman for Microsoft says that, despite what Steve Ballmer said last week, Windows XP will no longer be supported after this June. Confusing the matter even more is the fact that OEMs can still continue to sell XP in certain circumstances.

"We feel we've made the right accommodations for customers in certain segments who may need more time to transition to Windows Vista," she said. "But as Steve noted, we maintain a constant stance of listening to our customers and our partners. That's what is guiding our plan, and will continue to guide us going forward."

What customers are they listening to? Definitely not we millions who still like and use XP...

Meh. They are doing it for the Ultra Small portable that are coming out.

Truth be told. If they dont kill XP soon. No one will ever leave it. Even after Windows 7 if it doesnt give them the "Speed and stability" of XP they wont move then eihter and then what. When Mircrosoft if forced to finally stop everything on it people will still gripe.

So the truth is that if they dont kill it. No one will ever leave it. If they dont kill it after 7 then there will be no stopping XP ever. Which is sad. Then it would be no different then OS X. Version 10.5.2 now of that OS....

Vista is over a year old, and even the most feeble of computers can run it these days. Can you even buy a computer (not laptop) with less than a gig of memory in it?

That PC World article seems a bit in direct conflicts with other information seen on XP lately.

I am honestly not sure what to think with Microsoft and Windows Xp.
To your large OEMs (Big Name Brands like Dell, Sony etc) they are saying that the cut off date is june.
However to the channel partners (Smaller local OEMs, Your local computer shop) they are saying 2009.
