Windows vista resolution troubles

Basically ive been having a problem with vista since i installed it. First off, i was unable to get 1680 x 1050 on my desktop. i fixed this by unchecking the "hide modes that the monitor cannot display", which then allowed me to switch to 1680 x 1050. ever since then though, none of my games will support that resolution. All the games ive tried will let me go up to 1440 x 900, but that's it. I've reinstalled my video card driver, and ive tried looking for vista drivers for my monitor (you never know), but to no avail. Im currently running a 8800GT 512MB.

Moved to Windows support. Not a hardware issue.
