Windows Vista Home Premium questions

I'm getting this on one of my new laptops soon. I've gotten several for others for gifts. Anyway heres the questions.

1. Can I put this laptop on my current network with this os?

2. What are the limitations of this OS?

3. Should I update as soon as I get it setup?

4. Honestly, should I just revert back to windows xp?

5. Will all of my programs work fine?

6. Since I've heard this is mostly eye candy. Is there anyway to tweak the settings so it can perform better?

I have home premium on my media pc and i like it. The only problems i have run into with it is that if you press the power button, it doesnt shut down it does that stupid hibernate crap, and the pc wont ever come back on correctly. As long as it is home "premium" you get all the bells and whistles. Home basic sucks though, i have that on my laptop.

hey veedub...I think you can actually change the way the power button behaves

I use Vista ultimate at home, so not really sure how different it behaves

Ya, i'm guessing i can, but i didnt realize until after the first time i mashed the power button to shut it down that it did this. Last time i had to actually unplug it, then plug it in for it to resume. Also, remember not to turn off windows media center then put it into hibernation. Can't wait until sp1 fixes some of this crap.
