Hello,

In short: how do you run chkdsk on Windows Vista upon boot up?
I have a Vista recovery disk but it seems like it's only giving me the option to reinstall Vista completely.

Full detail:
I have searched google & tech-forums and have not found a solution.
I have a Windows Vista PC that is bluescreening every time it boots up.
It is harddrive related. As I am trying to save the photos/etc, I am hoping I can run chkdsk to recover the harddrive.
From what I've read online, you can run chkdsk by using the Recovery disk (https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=5097#CD) but I guess I am downloading the incorrect Recovery Disk image (Vista_Recovery_Disc.iso) as it is only giving me the option to re-install Windows.
Do you know of any other better instructions and/or solutions?
Do you know of a proper download site for a Windows Vista recovery disk?

All help is greatly appreciated. I'd really like to save these files.

When you put in a recovery disk or go into your recovery partition, there will be a "repair computer" option in the lower left, if I remember correctly. Click that and there will be a few options in there.

Adding onto this..

It will have an option to open command prompt; do that and then type in the following:
chkdsk c: /f /r

and it should check it.
