Default Windows update problem on XP

I've recently installed a new operating system on myt home PC. Xp Home, which replaced ME.

After installing the new operating system, i went to the windows update page & proceeded as usual to install all relevant updates. However, after choosing what updates I needed, i could go no further. I would click on the "install" button & it would just sit there & not go any further. No other buttons would respond either on the site like help or support.

Any ideas on why I can't download any of the updates? Every other web page seems to be no problem. The same sort of thing seems to happen when I try to go to secure pages, e.g. Online banking. I can go to the website but cannot log in.

Thankls for any help

Send a message via ICQ to I)arkTemplar

Try scanning your computer, maybe it's a virus.

Go to Help- About Internet Explorer and see what level of encryption you have. Sometimes, if you have less than 128,( shouldn't but sometimes a DLL, which i don't remember specifics curopts itself) sites won't let you logon.
