Windows update froze.

Windows 7, HP G62 Laptop AMD x2, ATI.. etc etc.

Working on someone's Laptop and I've had it installing its updates since 10 this morning (2 July.) It's on windows live essentials now, part 3 of 4

I just got home and it seems to have froze on part 3 of 4. What can I do to "kick" it back into gear without interrupting or messing anything up?

Nothing you can do to kick it back into gear. Cancel the rest of the updates, restart and try again.

Yup. Sadly I had this issue myself yesterday while updating my sister's PC. It stinks no doubt but there is no way to force WU to get back to work.
