Windows Update Failing 2008R2

On my production server when I attempt to install windows updates, it will just constantly "Checking for Updates" and then time out.

I turned of my firewall to rule out the possibility of firewall issues.
The windows update service is running

What else can I check our do to kick of the updates. Its been about 3 months since the last time I was able to download updates.

make sure your using a legitimate version of windows
check the date & year, time and time zone on your clock

If you check your registry, do have this key?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
"UseWUServer"
If you do, delete it, then restart the server.

I did check the registry for this key. Its stops at \Microsoft ... the rest of the key wasnt there.

Should I make the rest of the key?

Additionally this is a server 2008r2 os and its the Host.
