Default Windows media plugin not working in firefox

I have the latest version of firefox, and the latest version of windows media player (10), and I have had this problem for a while, but never bothered to fix it. Now it's getting annoying. The windows media plugin simply does not work. At all. No, I don't need any fancy DivX stuff, I tried it. I cant listen to streaming audio -- nothing. If I click on it, a player box comes up, and the screen is black, and the play button is grayed out. Please help me fix this, it's driving me nuts!!
