Default Windows Explorer Shows My Computer Twice

My system is Windows 2000, fully patched.

When I launch Windows Explorer with the folder tree open, under Desktop it often times shows ALL my items below it twice. So, instead of seeing:

Desktop
--- My Documents
--- My Computer
--- My Network Places
--- Recycle Bin

I sometimes see:

Desktop
--- My Documents
--- My Computer
--- My Network Places
--- Recycle Bin
--- My Documents
--- My Computer
--- My Network Places
--- Recycle Bin

This does NOT seem to happen consistently. I've never been able to discern a pattern. On a positive note, this appears to cause no problems whatsoever that I can tell. Everything works just fine. I think it's just a problem with Windows Explorer, but I'm not sure.

Has anyone ever seen this before?

Michael

WOW...That's fked up, dude.

Either you need to stop drinking, or Windows needs a nice reinstall.

Sounds like you have a boot virus...run your A/V and see what happens...if it's AVG and it tells you it fixed it, do NOT believe it, turn off system restore and do NOT reboot. Go to one of the online scans listed here: Security Help Tools

If it IS a boot virus, I don't THINK there is anything we can do to help...you will have to reformat to the best of my knowledge.

What make hard drive is your o/s on? You need to do a format of that hard drive before using it again. Liz
