My brother received a Sylvania net book with Windows CE. While this won't be his main PC I would still like for him to have a word processor since he is an avid writer.

Are there any freeware 3rd party options? Are there any for profit?

Any other programs that can put this net book to use? Will an anti-virus be necessary?

That gives you a laundry list of free programs. It is still a version of Windows. It can run anything that any other version can run. It is jsut an embedded version. It was still built off of XP or Win7 as they are the only 2 versions of Windows out there that ever had the option to use an embedded version. So it can run Office or anything else that Microsoft has created. I have never heard of anyone having any issues using any Microsoft software or any software on a CE version.

Would it work to install these to an SD card since it lacks a good hardrive?

That will depend on if the computer can run it from a SD card.
