Default Windows CD kEY

I wish to reinstall my copy of windows, the problem is that i cant find the cd key anywhere, apparently it is meant to come on a sticker on the pc itself, but it is not there, is there anyway other way i can find my cd key for this alreayd installed version of windows? is it written down anywhere?
i have also lost the cd case, so i cant look on that for the key.
thanks

Yes amd you always say you go out and get the bootleg keys I'd advise you stop doing that before something happens. Just do what Eric said.
