Windows activation question

I have an XP disc from Gateway that I had from my old computer. I just built my own and installed windows with this disc.

It requires me to activate this within 30 days. I will get a new XP cd in order to activate, but I was wondering if I have to reformat and install using the new XP cd in order to activate it successfully, or from the XP I already have installed, can I just enter in the activation key from the new CD and it will work?

Just try to activate it again...... And it will ask you for a new CD-KEY when the old one does not work. Just type the new one, and it will go thru..

Thanks, I'm installing all sorts of games and programs on this right now, Id rather not have to reinstall windows just to activate it. Wish Microsoft would be more generous and allow installation on 2 computers

You can intall it on more computers. It is just that your XP is OEM for gateways only........
