ok, im fixing a spare computer of a friends, and usually i can fix most things, i got a invalid disk error, so i used a 98 boot disk and copied over the system files through SYS C: and after i booted the windows 98 startup screen flashed for a second then it went to a c:> prompt that said windows 98 secound edition above it a couple lines up, what do i need to do from here, i could swear running into this before but i can't remember, thnx

I think you just booted to the command line of Windows 98, which is just DOS.
I don't understand exactly what you want to do after that. If you want to reinstall Windows, just get the 98 cd and pop it in the drive. The boot disk usually has CD-ROM drivers installed, so you should be able to start the install from there.

try this, sounds like a DOS loop:

ren config.sys config.123 <enter>
ren autoexec.bat autoexec.123 <enter>

then restart and let it rebuild.
