Hello everyone
Im trying to fix a friends gateway laptop running Windows 98.
She cannot browse the web, and i cant even get the ipconfig utility to open (WinIPcfg). It says something like "fatal error"
i have so far installed/reinstlled the tcp/ip stack bound to her nic card, reinstalled client for ms works, reinstalled the nic card, set it up to use windows logon, and set all ip/dns to automatically assign (we use cable service.)
Still nothing. When we open IE nothing happens (dns error) and i cannot ping any websites via the command prompt.
The NIC seems to be working fine (according to device manager) and in the utility it shows that its receiveing packets, but it is not sending them. Anyone have any clue or suggestions??? (other than get a new computer)
Im rusty on my windows 98
