Hi,
I have an old netbook with Windows 7 installed. I want to install windows 7 on a new tower that I have just built. I was wondering if I could transfer that copy of windows 7 to my hard drive to use on the new tower instead of the netbook.

Thanks For Any Answers.

probably not.
for one thing it is against M$ eula and the laptop hard drive does not have the drivers for the desktop, it might work, but chances are it won't. Wouldn't hurt anything to try it but do not be disappointed if it does not boot into windows

In regard to transferring the install: You'll have a 50/50 shot of it working. I've only ever seen Windows 7 Pro work with transferring without issue.

In regard to the licensing, legally you can only transfer hardware if you have a Retail license, not an OEM license. An OEM license will be what came with the computer, and will say "OEM" on the license sticker on the machine. Legally, you're not allowed to transfer and reactivate.
