Windows 7 FAQ and Questions

Windows 7 SP1 Beta Downloads

Microsoft has just released the official beta version of the upcoming first service pack for Windows 7. The beta version, unlike previous builds of the service pack 1, is available publicly. Home users who want to download the beta version need to register at the Evaluation Center before being able to do so.
Service Pack 1 Beta is made only available for IT Professionals and Developers, it is therefor required to pick an IT or developer related occupation in the questionnaire during registration.

Please Note: This early release of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Beta is not available for home users. The SP1 Beta does not provide new end-user features, and installation is not supported by Microsoft.

Meaning that we will also not support it. If you take the time to fill out this survey and get the SP, you will have to figure out what went wrong. Not even Microsoft is supporting SP1 questions on its consumer forums. Windows 7 SP1 if for IT Pros only!

Win 7 My Document folder not accessible

My Acer laptop came with Windows 7. My last computers are all with XP. My biggest surprise is my access to My Documents is denied, even though I am the only user, and presumably the administrator. What's the solution to that?

Check the topic you created on the subject. I gave the answer there.

But to answer the question for others, you must take ownersip of the files. any XP machine that had an account with a password has the files protected so you must take ownership of the files in order to access them. To find out how to take ownership of files in Vista/Win7 check the Read First thread under that exact title. Ownership of files in Vista/Win7.

I'm still running XP do all of you recommend Windows 7 or should I ride XP or should I wait till XP is totally gone?

You really need to read the thread. This question has been asked and answered several times.

You could have searched for the multiple threads with the same question as well.

That is just on the first 2 pages of 6 pages for the search of Windows 7 upgrade worth it. So as you see as easily as i could have answered, you could have searched and gotten the answer without having to ask the same question. There is already multiple topics in which you can get so much information from various people who have already answered the same question.

Which is exactly why i gave the answer i did. Your question has been asked and answered. All you had to do was look to find what you wanted. We want to help, but answering the same question over and over gets a bit tedious when the answer could have been found.

This might be in here somewhere but I'm not sure how to word it to search :/

Anyways how would I move my "local disc" property off of my SSD? I want windows to stay installed on it, but I don't want the profiles and everything to default to the SSD. Been running into the problem where games and programs use the default local drive as a space dump for a temporary folder, but I've only got 6gb free on my SSD (no data just programs) so its becoming a bit of an issue. I'm hoping there's a simple way (like moving "my documents" defaults ect) but I'm not sure.

This would require a Registry Hack and it is not the best idea at all to do. You can move your personal documents and pictures and stuff off the drive. But i would highly suggest you dont move the temp files or the Local Disk from that drive. As then it would have to access the other drive you want to put it on more often and the whole point of having a SSD is for the quick access time. You would defeat the purpose and might as well install it back onto a SATA drive.
