I have the windows 7 64-bit upgrade media and will be doing a clean install, but a little unclear on the steps.

When I did this with vista upgrade, I had to do a "custom" (clean) install, not enter the key during setup, and then immediately start an upgrade from the same dvd once booted into vista - i'm sure you guys know that drill.

Is it the same with Win7? I have a Vista business 32-bit upgrade dvd and going to Win 7 64-bit Professional. Will it be the same double-install approach as before, or do you know if you can show proof of the existing OS with the vista dvd during setup to avoid installing twice?

Hi,

Have you formatted your hard drive already (that is, do you no longer have your Windows partition on your hard drive)?

If so, then check out the following articles for instructions on how to perform a clean install with Windows 7 upgrade media:

Note: Your current system and license must be eligible for Windows 7 upgrade in order for it to be legal.

I am sure that the hundreds of sites that have details about this will be of some more assistance. Along with the FAQ Thread where at the bottom it clearly states the process needed.

You are not going to avoid installing twice. You are not using the media as intended! It is a UPGRADE media. It is NOT MADE for clean installs.
