windows 200o installation problem

I was trying to use a Pentium 4 running at 2.66Ghz to install windows 2000 on a 40Gb hard drive. After formatting and copying files, it refuses to boot from the drive.
I have checked the boot sequence and all but to no avail.
After POSt i just see a dark screen with the cursor blinking. Please help.

Format and install Windows again. If you still have that problem, it may be the HDD or maybe the install CD.

What kind of drive is it? I would run a diagnostic tool from the manufacturor's website

Grab the starter edition, and do a 'Zero-fill' on the drive. They call it 'Low level formatting', but you cannot do that outside of the factory. Zero-filling does great things, more often than not fixing drive errors.
