Default Windows 2000 Server backup error

I am trying to daily backups with 2000 server backup. I don't want to switch the tapes daily, I just want it to overwrite the tape. I tried to do this through the backup program and writing my own .bat file the was suggested. However, I get an error message reading
The operation was not performed because no unused media was available.
I go into device manager and the tape is listed. When I go into computer management under Removeable Storage I check my physical locations and the tape drive has a red X through it. When I try to do a right click to eject it says no media is in drive.

Please help..............................
