Certainly wouldnt bother me to put more ram in. I have always thought that 386 mb was a weird number to have for ram size. So this laptop is from 2004 or so I beleive ... where can I find out what kind of ram i need and how much my max i can go with is. I had to replace my hd and was extremely lucky i did that w/o screwing things up so any help or advice here would be appreciated alot.

Is some of that dedicated to your video card?

OK Great and would newegg be the place to go for the ram? I have a microsoft certificate of authenticity sticker for XP on the back of this comp with the 25 digit key code....any chance I call microsoft and they send me a new disc? THis comp was from my brother and when he got it it wasnt working so he fresh installed the w2k onto it just to see if it worked and then i ended up with it. Now im looking to upgrade it across the board i guess.

Two sticks of this is your best bet. If they don't work, try em one by one. Return the defective one, if any, and buy a new one. Repeat, but you probaly will just get two working sticks, I'm just giving your the procedure.

Just ordered the 2 512's from newegg but am going to wait until i make contact with microsft re. the xp OS. Thanks again Peter
