hey guys i am going to a clients house tomorrow and updating his system from i think win 98 to xp home + xp office home.
just one thing that i am worried about.
and that is its his dads work computer.
so now my question is when i install the os will he loose all his emails, adresses, email settings and files?
if some would reply with a answer asap it would b much appreciated! thanks

are you using an upgrade cd? or are you formating it?

if you are just doing an upgrade it shouldnt erase any of the information.

If there is important data, make a backup of all the files onto another hard drive or burn it onto a CD.. But if it's just an upgrade it shouldn't delete those files.

For precaution, u should backup all the important data b4 u do anything.

Insert the Disk while running Windows 98. A menu should appear automaticly. Choose option to install Windows XP. Once Setup starts and you answer a few of the first questions just choose "Upgrade" option from the drop down menu (it should be a default option, so just in case if it isn't...).

That's about it... Follow the Setup procedure untill you're done.
As a precausion, do a backup of important data.
