Why is my PC slowing down?

I got a new PC about 1 year ago, it was amazing, it was fast and it was able to run any game under the sun at the highest graphics.

However about 1-2 months ago it started slowing down, couldn't run games on high graphics, in the beginning I thought it was due to the games themselves as in they are new releases and they have higher requirements so I probably need an upgrade, however I was playing Warhammer Space Marines and it was running perfectly then I left the game for about a month came back to it and it started lagging like ****.

I ran anti-virus scans, says nothing is there.
I have 350 gb of empty space.
I run CCleaner regularly.
I also use gaming booster.

Yet all of these don't help.
Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Have you taken the side panel off lately? It sounds like it may be overheating. When it starts getting hot the system will slow down in an attempt to cool itself down. You'll probably need to buy a couple cans of compressed air to clean out the dust, don't use a vacumn.

could be and is most likely programs running in the background, MY computer is a smiliar spec to yours but with a better graphics card and it struggles to play the latest latest games, resolution is also a big factor, i see the 9800GT (which i had) can go up to full HD, are you pushing it in 1920x1080? if not, take it down.
