I've been backing up a bunch of my DVDs with DVD X COPY platinum. Most of them backed up nicely, but Pulp Fiction and Scarface had some error in the middle of the reading.

Is this because the decryptions arent updated or what? i dont know much about burning, maybe you could help me out.

like vance said. DVDshrink is free and it works great. You need nero to burn but the nero demo version is also free. That's all I use. You have more options with DVD shrink than with Xcopy. You can reauthor your DVD's removing menus, extras etc. to reduce compression.

These are old movies and likely the disc read surface is scratched. The two ways to get around this is by repairing the reading surface or use http://www.dvddecrypter.com/ and set the I/O settings to

read error retries: 0
ignore read errors [x]

than use dvd shrink to compress your movie. Dr.DVD, Disc Doctor, or other repair devices don't work well, just a heads up before you waste your money on these. If you can borrow another undamaged copy of the movie that would also work.
