A friend has a virus. of course you can't see window 7 serials after a year or so of having them. meanwhile XP serial stickers will last forever

I try to use magic jelly bean. it says that the serial is a series of B's (BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB)

WTF? How can I find the true serial?

I like using Belarc Advisor. It is free and can e found on Belarc's site, MajorGeeks, or any other reputable site. It will pull all MS keys, as well as give you a hardware and software listing.

Can also try NirSoft's keyfinder (supposedly works in W7).

Currently v1.53, but it says this in 1.43:

Version 1.43
When the product key is not stored in the Registry (like in volume licenses of Windows 7), ProduKey will display 'Product key was not found' instead of wrong 'BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB' key

If none of those options work, I at one point knew a site where you could convert the product ID to your key, but can't remember where it is... I've found the VB code for it on a few places, though if you want to try that. Also a way to delve in with a hex editor that I tried once too.
