I'm getting the error \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM and I'm following the steps for this but the FIRST of each commands don't work for me. (the system ones) All the other commands worked EXCEPT the first one on each

It all seems to be the system one??? Any thoughts??? These are the ones that aren't working and the error I get on ALL of them is “The system cannot find the file specified”

copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak

delete c:\windows\system32\config\system

copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system

I'm following the steps listed here and everyone has stated, they are correct.
How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting

Those steps are correct I have used them many times. You are using Windows XP and have it installed to C:\WINDOWS?

try it through the gui

start | run, c:\windows\system32\config\system, copy data to a temp folder

delete the files in system folder.

copy files from c:\windows\repair\system to \config\system.

it sounds like these folders do not exist

true true

run these commands in this order

cd windows
cd system32
cd config
cd system

which doesn't work?

run dir command to view directory listing
