I currently use the official Skype client and I would like to use an alternative that supports Google chat too. Does anyone know of a program that can do this?

Personally I recommend Trillian Professional.
It will support google chat if that is what you are seeking.

20 bucks per year is not much to ask for oppose 4.99 -10.99 monthly through any other service.

If you use android or blackberry smartphones both of them support it.
Just make sure you turn off the data option while on the go or you'll have no more gb to use. :p

This isn't really what I wads looking for. Sorry I wasn't clear enough.
I wanted to know if you know of a free client that combines your Google Chat and Skype contacts and lets you chat with all of them in one client so I don't have to run multiple clients and switch between them.

That's what Trillian does.

You can chat with contacts on different networks.
Trillian has great support for many different chat networks, including Facebook, Skype, Google, MSN, AIM, ICQ, XMPP, Yahoo!, and more. We're also working harder than ever before to adopt open standards and open communication and are committed to documenting Trillian's internal protocols.

Although you don't need the Pro version - the free version should work just fine as far as I could tell - unless you want the Pro features.
