Default what exactly are these lines in word

there are lines that i cannot select in a word document. they are in various parts in the document. just horizontal lines. i try putting cursor in front of them and pressing delete but it only deletes the text that comes after.

I may be wrong, but aren't those page breaks?

...Paragraphing, line spacing?

If you hit 'enter' and word seems to leave a horizontal gap before moving onto the next line, this is line spacing.

Either click the Style dropdown box at the top, and change the value to Normal or go to Format > Paragraph... and change Line Spacing: to Single.

Show a screenshot. But i believe Bruce is right and they are the page breaks. Do these "lines" seperate the text by a greater margin than just hitting the enter key? If so then it is the page break.
