What is this?

I just installed XP pro in my machine. When I restart only XP pro logo comes and then screen goes black. No welcome menu.

Istart by safe mode option, then I can see systwm tray with safe mode written on the four corner of the screen. That's it. I can click start menu and everything comes but no background or wallpaper

if you press cntrl alt del and check for processes does explorer.exe show? maybe an older registered dll if not

I went to VGA option after pressing F8, installed driver , all done
