Weird Volume Control Problem

Hey Pros,
I have a very weird problem with my windows xp. When I click once on the Volume control icon on the system tray, it brings up a multitude of the small control bars and the only way to get rid of them is to use the task manager to stop the processes.
This weird problem happens only when I press the volume icon as soon as windows is loaded and i havent opened any other programs.
Can anyone help me stop this problem?

do you need it there in th first place? something could be using it also in msconfig, so check that and reboot
