Weather gadget not working

Suddenly the weather gadget on my desktop has stopped working, says "cannot connect to service" even though my internet connection is fine. Has Microsoft disabled the weather gadget, as some say? If so, would downloading Weather Underground be a good idea?

Microsoft states they have a serious vulnerability with their gadgets

Gadgets are no longer available on our website because the Windows Sidebar platform in Windows 7 and Windows Vista has serious vulnerabilities

Gadgets have been discontinued - Microsoft Windows

Mine worked until I did a windows update, I think it was one of those non-critical updates but I'm not sure.
Did some checking, and there is a "fix it" to enable or disable your gadgets. So I'm not so sure what M$ is really securing that flaw for????

Mine stopped working since last evening and some sources said MS has disabled weather & currency gadgets for security reasons.

Is it okay to download Weather Underground as replacement?

^ As long as you're getting it from a legit source. Weather Underground is a legit site (I use it along with Weather.gov for looking up all my weather forcasts).

Btw, is weather underground only for residents of the US? I'm in Canada and can't find that in 'options'.
