Default vxd bug in win98

Just reinstalled win98SE on my box:

768 megs of ram
AMD 1.7 ghz

Getting a lot of wierd lock ups, BSOD ( Blue screen of death ) and messages that there is not enough memory to run the requested program ( like when I try to run command.com ).

one message I get a lot is on a BSOD: exception occured at addres.... in VMCPD(01).VXD.

I treied the following:

- Ran MSCONFIG and tuined off not-needed programs
- Read MS Knowledge Base article 234069 and followed the directions there....

Turns out that the file VMPCD.VXD does not even exist on my machine....

I have a couple of questiosn:

1 - Where does VMCPD.VXD come from ?
2 - How do I resolve the issue ?
3 - Does win98 use all of the 768 megs I have or is that was is causing the trouble...

Any help is appreciated.

You can download the file and replace it if you want, but be careful

Id suggest and update before a re install of it.
(if your computer doesn't boot after this, boot in safe mode )
