Is vista upgrade the way to go on a new build?

I am going to try vista on another computer. I have read numerous articles on just getting the upgrade and using that instead of the full version. I have not read much about it lately and was wondering what people were doing. Please respond only if you have tried the upgrade process. Thanks.

I've performed a Vista upgrade on a machine I have at home. However, due to transitional problems, I later decided to do a complete format of the system partition and do a clean install of Vista.

I'd advise against doing an upgrade in all cases, and instead do a clean install of the OS. Also, remember to backup your important data files, whether your doing an upgrade or a clean install.

Really, there's no need to purchase the full version, because you can do a clean install using the Vista upgrade disc. Though, it does require a certain procedure. However, it will save you money. If you google you'll find many places where you can get step by step instructions. Here are two:
