Actually, I have Debian with LXDE on it. Runs pretty nice.

I just need to get a new mini-pci wireless card. And not get Brodcom.....

several cards are just rebranded broadcom or atheros....

but I had netgear cards and they worked in debian linux and redhat based centOS with no fuss even a few years ago....

IMO, it does not matter who the distributor is. It depends on the chip. I had several wireless cards i had to deal with that all had realtek chips. They were made by different distributors. Same core chip.

Edit: I doubt they make mini-PCI cards.

Well, yeah, with 1GB, you aren't going to run 7 well. I hated 7 Starter that's on my mom's netbook. It's just so cut down, I wouldn't call it an OS. :|

I'll go and get the laptop when I go over there tomorrow. Take it home and tear the thing apart. :p

Actually, my parents computer has 1gb RAM, and I put Windows 7 Pro on it, and it runs just fine.

I ran server 2003 on a system with 256MB of ram just fine LOL.... but that's before the epic browser bloat of doom happened.

I ran it as a workstation for a while.
