I wanna get into Virtual machine, creating this thread for help until I get it setup right

1st step, choosing the sandbox, suggestions?

VMware is big obviously
virtualbox - they have AMD infront of their 64 bit version so it's for AMD processors only?
download easyVMX! to run vmware player?
mircosoft's own VPC 2007? http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx

hardware I am currently running
intel Q6600
4gb ram
ATi hd4850
Marvell libertas 802.11g WLan adapter
vista 64

Virtual box is partly sponsored by AMD but it will work on intel processors, but the gold standard of Virtulisation is VMware. I use the workstation version as I like it's features over the free version (server) I normaly run anyware from 2 - 5 VM's at any one time depending on what I am doing at the time.

What is the main use for the VM's testing or just to play around with or as a server?

I am actually on unbuntu 8.1 right now

I couldn't get internet for the longest time until I switched the network adopter mode from Bridged to NAT

then BAM it just connected itself!
