viewing pictures in emails

In emails where pictures as attachments with a JPG suffix, we can always see them. When you send us picures within an e-mail, they appear as a red X and we can't view the pictures. Any idea why?
 
It could be, that by the time you've opened the email, the picture was deleted from the server where it was linked from.
 
Not sure I understand. Say I'm sending a picture to someone else, I always send the photo not a shortcut to it.

Sometimes I copy it directly into the message or may attach it. Which is the more correct way?

If the recipent sees a red x instead of the pic would it have anything to do with their email settings?
 
It may. If you are using outlook, you may want to go into your email options tab and, in your "Send" preference tab, set the Mail Sending Format to HTML. Click on HTML Settings, and make sure the "Send Pictures with Messages" option is checked.
