Video won't play

Okay, so I got a video. First, it describes it two different formats. The description under the icon in the folders menu says "Winamp media file". But if I right click on the icon, I look down and I see w/ avast! "Scan ___.avi" What is the correct format?

Next, I converted the file to play on my iPod. And it plays fine. But I can't seem to play it through iTunes, Winamp, or Windows Media Player. And with the later two, .avi is selected as a format to play. I can hear the video, but I can't see it. How do I get it to play on my computer and not just my iPod?

Can you convert back from the working iPod copy? Just to be sure of the format? It seems odd that it would work on the iPod but not on the computer.

Did you not keep the old file which you converted from?

No, I have both files: the original, unconverted file and the converted file. The converted plays on the iPod fine, but neither play on the computer.
