Using Windows 8 in Virtualbox

open up a terminal and navigate to the directory where the iso is located

then type:
md5sum <name of file>.iso

I put the file in the C:\Users\Administrator folder and ran the command and got an error saying md5sum is not a recongnized command.

c:\users\administrator ? that's a windows user account path.... I thought you were on ubuntu?

md5sum is not a command from windows command prompt. do it from your linux terminal.

oops, use the command sha1sum instead of md5sum

they are two different hash types and microsoft reports only sha1 on the website

lol i'm learning a lot too! try doing this

sha1sum -c <filename>.iso

that will actually check the hash rather than create one lol.

sha1sum: Win832bit.iso: no properly formatted SHA1 checksum lines found
