I know that to use Vista you should really have a minimum of 2GB of ram. But I was wondering, if for the sole purpose of using Vista as a DVR, would 512MB of ram be enough? I wont be doing anything else on it but record shows.

I think that should be enough. Minimum is actually 512MB and recommended is 1GB. Though IMO, 1GB should be minimum for regular use. See how it works out for you. If it lags, just simply add another 512MB.

if you stripped down the number of background apps running, and kept it to a bare minimum you should have no problem... I also wouldn't keep this on a network, as the anti-"stuff" would take up a lot of resources as well.

using media center you need a minimum of 1 gig. 512 is cool if you don't use it.

I would have to agree. Media Center is intensive even if you cut out much of the rest of Vista. Just about any site you see will tell you the same thing.
