Upgrading XP to a newer version

I have 2 versions of XP. One is the original OEM XP PRO and the second came on a toshiba laptop and is the home version. Can the home version e used on a desktop that is running the HD from the laptop?

Also,when longhorn or vista arives,can these be upgaded to the newer "Pro" versions?

Nope. Its has to be the same mobos, drivers, etc. More than likely you can upgrade with Vista.

xp has a rule that most people don't know about. you can run the same xp copy on a pc and a laptop at the same time legally. running it on 2 pc's isn't legal
