Default Updates re-booting

I seem to be re-booting a lot when Microsoft sends me an automatic update. Will I need to re-boot after every windows update? Which types of updates will I have to reboot after installing? Why does Microsoft need me to reboot after installing an update? Waht does re-booting accomplish?

Some files need a reboot to install. It saves the settings. You can turn off auto-reboot if you want. Then you reboot manually when it is convenient for you.
